Can anyone tell me if i can use a crossover cable to connect to the
non-wireless router to my xbox? What settings do i need in order for
this whole shabang to work? I am using win xp and i'm trying to
connect the router to my pc by using crossover cable and then i would
like it to talk to my wireless adapter and share it. what would i need
to do? advice, suggestions anyone?

A crossover cable is only used in the following circumstances.

1) To connect two networking devices without a hub, switch, bridge, or
router.
2) To connect two hub(s), switch(es), bridge(s), or router(s) without
using the uplink port on one of the two devices.

A standard patch cable can be used for connecting a networking device
(such as your computer & xbox) to a hub, switch, bridge, or router.

I posted this to a thread here a couple hours ago:

There is a lot of information here:

links under the Resources listing on the right side, too.

Swap out the crossover cable for a straight cable between the router and the
xbox - then you should be ready to roll. Make sure you have the account
information set up in the XBox and also be sure that ports UDP 88, UDP 3074
and TCP 3074 is open OR you are running NAT properly.

Sure that will work as well, just make sure you have ICS enabled on the XP
machine. But this is disadvantagous in that you will need to have the XP
machine up and running in order to get online. Again, if a firewall is
running on your router/system, make sure that the ports are open or that
NAT is working as it should
